The study was published in the journal Injury Prevention, authored by Drs. Peter Smith and Cameron Mustard. The study uses data from Statistics Canada's Workplace and Employee Survey. Provincially, Quebec had the lowest rates of safety training for new workers, and Manitoba had the highest. There were no marked trends by industry or age group. The study emphasizes the importance of organizations developing safety climates, as a proactive approach to injury prevention and risk reduction in workplaces, especially in high-hazard industries.
An overview of this study is published in the spring 2007 issue of the Institute's newsletter, At Work, available at: www.iwh.on.ca
