According to research published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health, based on a sample survey of worksites with 100 or more employees, 68% have employee assistance programs. Fewer reported other types of health promotion programs. 29% reported fitness programs and 25% had disability management programs. Less than 6% had day care or elder care services. The distribution of these programs varies by industry and organizational characteristics, workforce characteristics and region.
Health promotion programs are more common than programs aimed at deterence. For example, 10% of worksites reported having drug-testing programs. Worksites in Alberta were 5 times more likely than those in Ontario to have drug-testing (25% compared with 5%).
